Honor and Remember
VA Run for the Fallen is giving our lodge an opportunity to call attention and honor the men and women who have recently died in military service to America.
Runners stop at each mile marker where a placard has been pre placed with names and brief bio of service members that have died as a result of serving during the War on Terror and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn.
At each mile Hero Marker the run team stops and gives an individual tribute to waiting Gold Star Family members, friends, comrades, and citizens.
The Run for the Fallen starts at Fort Story on May 02, 2019 at 6:30 AM with a brief ceremony and the runners start time 7:00AM.
They run a course along Shore drive to Oceanview with last stop just prior to the HRBT which will be at 10:35 AM.
I will be at the lodge Friday April 5, 2019 and Friday April 12, 2019 with sign up information and Hero Marker information so that Elk members can be present at marker of their choosing.
I will have times when runners will stop at each marker.
If you want to be at the start location on Ft. Story I will need your name ASAP in order for you to put your name on the list for access.
Can’t come out to the Run? Still want to help??
Well then, come on down to the Lodge on Wednesday May 01, 2019 where we will be making chicken sandwiches and packing 40 grab and go lunches for the Runners!!
Starts at 7:00 pm!!
Also welcome is a healthy snack!! Apples, oranges, bananas, and protein bars. They also like cookies!!
We can also supply decorations for the markers. Who is good at ribbons??
You can bring anything that will draw attention to the marker you have chosen!
The idea is to support the Families and friends of the Fallen and let them know we are grateful for their sacrifices and to provide comfort.
These families are comforted by the knowledge that others care.
